  Cancer Survivor Stacy Warrington
Find

When 34-year-old Stacy Warrington
was diagnosed with breast cancer in
January 2004, the news stunned her
family and friends.

As a young wife and mother of three young daughters, Stacy’s mind went immediately into survival mode – she wouldn’t accept anything less.

“I can’t say enough about the support I received from the doctors and nursing staff at the Phoebe Cancer Center. While the medical advice and treatment were important, the genuine care, concern and compassion they showed me was in itself very healing. Both my surgeon, Dr. O.B. Carter and my oncologist, Dr. Jose Tongol, treated me as they would someone from their immediate family. They both constantly checked on me and offered me the best health and supportive care possible. The same was true of the nurses and staff in the oncology department. They always had a smile on their face, and their positive attitudes made my days brighter.”

Diagnosed with infiltrating ductal carcinoma – of which 70 percent of breast cancer cases are – she soon underwent surgery and began her initial chemotherapy treatment, her youth and strong physical health an asset to her recovery.

Today, Stacy has successfully completed her treatments and undergone reconstructive surgery.

She remains committed to promoting awareness of early detection and treatment of breast cancer – two important factors in her own survival. “My cancer was detected early, but it could have been found sooner. I was so young and never imagined the small lump I continued to feel was malignant. The truth about this disease is truly the earlier it is discovered, the greater the chance of less invasive treatments and the even greater chance of cure and survival.”

Warrington encourages all women to have annual mammograms and to perform monthly breast self exams.
